ExcelRewind Recorder

ExcelRewind records why your spreadsheet numbers change — cell edits, notes, and optional voice narration — into a shareable, replayable session file. Your workbook is never modified.

Access is per account. The first time you open the pane, sign in with your email (you'll get a 6-digit code) or with Google.

Excel on the web — easiest

  1. Download the manifest with the button above.
  2. Open a workbook at office.com.
  3. Go to Home → Add-ins → More Add-ins (or Insert → Office Add-ins).
  4. Pick My Add-ins → Upload My Add-in, choose rewind-manifest.xml.
  5. ExcelRewind Recorder appears on the Home tab.

Excel for Windows (desktop)

Option A — helper script:

  1. Download install-rewind.ps1.
  2. Open PowerShell as administrator in your Downloads folder and run: 
    powershell -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File .\install-rewind.ps1
  3. Restart Excel → Home → Add-ins → More Add-ins → Shared Folder → ExcelRewind Recorder → Add.

Option B — manual (what the script automates):

  1. Save the manifest into a new folder, e.g. C:\RewindAddin.
  2. Right-click the folder → Properties → Sharing → Share… → share with yourself. Note the network path (\\YOUR-PC\RewindAddin).
  3. In Excel: File → Options → Trust Center → Trust Center Settings → Trusted Add-in Catalogs → paste the network path → Add → tick Show in Menu → OK.
  4. Restart Excel → Home → Add-ins → More Add-ins → Shared Folder → Add.

Excel for Mac

  1. Open Terminal and run:

  2. Restart Excel → Insert → My Add-ins (click the dropdown arrow) → ExcelRewind Recorder under Developer Add-ins.

Microsoft 365 organizations

An admin can deploy ExcelRewind to chosen users tenant-wide: Microsoft 365 admin center → Settings → Integrated apps → Upload custom apps → upload the manifest. The add-in then appears for everyone selected, no per-machine steps.

Replaying sessions

Anyone can replay a .rewind file — no install, no account: open the viewer and drop the file in.
